Mentoring

One of the requirements for completion of the Certificate in Supervisory Techniques and Certified Public Manager programs is that participants complete projects, which incorporate the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

The Mentoring Program is a joint effort of the La. Society of CPMs and the Public Management Program at LSU to assist participants in developing and completing the project requirements. Participants who request help with projects are referred to the Society's Mentoring Committee. A trained mentor is then assigned to work with the participant. Whenever possible, mentors are assigned from the same agency and/or geographical area as the participant. The mentor may assist the participant by helping develop a project idea, suggesting resources, reviewing and commenting on the project, or simply being available to answer questions.

Participants in the Public Management Program who are interested in having the assistance of a mentor should start the process by contacting the Mentoring Committee Chair. Once the Mentoring Committee is notified, a mentor will be assigned and will contact the participant.

Additional mentors are always needed. Society members interested in becoming mentors should contact Chuck Handrich, Mentoring Committee Chair, at (225) 219- 3452, or e-mail Chuck.Handrich@la.gov.
